Since 2000 the Mississippi Delta region has enjoyed a blues renaissance, with the arrival of new festivals, venues, museums, and the Mississippi Blues Trail series of historic markers. In order to help maximize visitors’ experiences of the area’s blues riches, the “Bridging the Blues” project is bringing you America’s music by coordinating events over a ten-day period, from Friday, September 28 to Monday, October 8, 2012.

About The Homecoming Celebration

The Pinetop Perkins Homecoming Celebration began with the dedication of the Pinetop Perkins Shack at the Hopson Plantation’s Shack Up Inn in October 2001. It became an annual event to honor Pinetop who had spent World War II on the grounds of Hopson’s driving one of the first mechanized cotton picking machines. The event quickly drew many fans and musicians each year who stopped by on the Sunday after the King Biscuit Festival to honor Pinetop. Ike Turner, Charlie Musslewhite, James Cotton, Kenny Neal, Bob Margolin, Willie Big Eyes Smith and Michael Burks joined Mississippians James Super Chikan Johnson, Lightnin'  Malcolm, Cedric Burnside, and many, many more to honor Pinetop. All the proceeds raised went directly to Pinetop himself. The event drew to attract over 1000 fans to three stages of music on these Sunday afternoons. Since 2009 all the proceeds have gone directly to scholarships for youth to attend the annual Master Class workshops.

The Shack Up Inn as well as area hotels and motels fill up fast during this time of year.  Book your rooms early!
